It's all about learning...

"Yes! fasting is a way to control on desires"... a sudden thought came into my mind. Vik told me in the morning that it's Tuesday today so he does not want to eat egg in breakfast. I never heard such things from Vik. For me he is not a believer of such customs. He left and I kept thinking why do we create such customs? There must be some cause behind it.
Then the churning process started deep down the mind. it went something like this...
Vik = Meat lover
Tuesday = Ma Durga's day
Tradition or Custom says "Say no to Meat or Egg on a particular day"...       ( for some it's Tuesday for some it's Thursday...& i know some people for whom it's 5 days a week :-/ )
What is the reason behind this custom?
Eating the food you love is a desire and eating what you love is a normal human tendency. Our tradition and customs teaches us to keep control on desires. I think that is why this custom came into existence, to teach us that ' To become happy after getting whatever we opt for is normal but To remain happy even after not getting what we love is great'... and the highest point of the moral will be to donate the thing we love to some needy.

A Marathi writer has wrote some beautiful lines about this. Here is rough translation of that:
To eat when one feel hungry is Natural
To eat even when one is not feeling hungry is Abnormal
To give away your food to someone hungry, even when you are very hungry is called Culture

Another thing this custom will teach you...
To follow sincerely what ever you believe in and to never give up...
I am sincerely thinking of giving company to Vik to follow this custom... let's see what happens?
